"Hey, anyone here from Tampere?"

I am from Tampere. Ilves.

"I remember a collegue of mine, a teacher, from whom I asked to show her course materials that I would not teach the same things (we were teaching a same class). I was struck by her answer as she said that she COULD show her materials only if everyone else showed theirs to her. I believe this kind of behaviour is common in Finland. Teachers work part time and are afraid of others stealing their jobs."

But don’t we teach this already in schools? Visit any art class and you will see children leaning over and working with their “art pieces” so that nobody will see it until it is ready.

"On this page they state the material is intended ONLY for the students of the participant organizations."

Believe me I have tried to explain for the University Network for Communication sciences what they (we) would benefit if publishing all their content under some reasonable CC license. People just don’t get it.

You example of the "Kuvanlukutaito" -content is funny but also so common. Their copyright statement is totally bizarre. The content is online but same time they tell you that the authors hold all copyright and rights of use. So, practically you and me just violated their copyright by visiting the site. So it goes.
