Sharing Audio

This assigment drove me nuts.

I did spent way too many hours on this one. I thought this would be a easy-piecy because I already have some experience of creating and using feeds. Also, I have found Audacity to be a proper software for basic tasks and used it for recording several times. I have always compressed my mp3s with LAME codec. One of my bands has its' own news feed (in Finnish only at the moment) and another one has published CC licenced songs etc., so I should just put all these pieces together in no time. But how wrong I was.

First I decided to shoot a panoramic image from my backyard with kids playing and sun shining. And I did, but somehow Hugin did not like my images this time. After several attempts to combine the photos I had to shoot them all over again. This time the light was gone and so were the kids. In furious rage I uninstalled Hugin and put these new images together with a piece of software that came along twith my camera. The result was blurry and colorless but I got it done.

Then I realized that I could not get any of my microphones at hand today. I even have valve mikes, but now I had to use an old webcam for the purpose. Audacity did not want to detect my cam's mic at first. And when I finally got it installed the sound was terrible. Uh.

Then Flickr said that I cannot upload QTVR unless I have a pro account. I started to write this moaning directly to my blog and pressed accidentally a quick link... which erased the text from the memory.

Trying to find the right licence from the CC pages is also a painful task. What licence to use? Not that I couldn't eventually learn it but at first all the pages seemed to direct me to irrelevant information or the information was provided so unclear that it was hard to figure out. Well, I found the code to paste on my website, but it kept on giving me the Finnish one. What if I wanted an international  licence? How to change the language? And what about if I had only audio? I should have put a short intro speech into my songs to tell how they were licenced... I even found some ready made "plugins" eventually. But what about with QTVR that could be accessed via a direct link? I decided to add a link to CC-pages in the meta data.

And the Flickr said that I cannot upload the panorama unless I have a pro account.

My head hurts.

Here is my feed from where all my feeds can be found:

My project band Lightning Blaster has CC licenced its' music (The page and music is in Finnish only, sorry, please select the english from the language options to make something out of it). Blaster has never played together in real life. This band is infact a beta test for a larger online project that we have been planning to start during this year. It has a strong resemblence of SectionZ but we have a bit smaller scale. We have plans to open a site for a online band (or a few of them) that could have several hundreds of musicians collaborating on songs under a common theme. The UI fasilitates uploading and loading tracks to an online pre-mixer that could be used for fast mixes of all the tracks available. The idea is more or less wiki based, that anyone could play an instruments of choice to any song regardless of what the original composer had thought the song would need. Or write lyrics or translate them, re-mix etc. There are some unsolved problems still, like how to make sure that we have enough disc space? Time will tell if people will find our site and what it will grow to be.

I can just add to what

I can just add to what Barbara said - this task also took me much more time than I thought it would, mostly because of technical problems. However, the next task, uploading a film, was ten times worse! And I thought I had this technical stuff under control! The photo of the halo was good. It looked really beautiful but maybe that is because the actual town was hidden in darkness. All the best Keith

Aargh... just noticed that

Aargh... just noticed that there is something wrong with my feed with Google reader. By clicking the first link (http://www.liukuma.net/bluesduo/jjlightningfeed.xml) and adding the source to Google reader won't show the content correctly??? Only the audio link is visible. But by copying the URL and adding it directly to Google reader it works fine. If somebody has a clue what is going on I would be most grateful.

No idea about the reader but

No idea about the reader but I agree with you on this assignment to be time consuming - I made various attempts, too. But I liked the panorama a lot (even without kids). Greetings from Germany where spring has just arrived.
